Condensation in a lamp

A light fog on the inside of a lens after a cold or wet night is common. Standing water in the bowl is a different problem. Auto Car Lighting Lab does not diagnose a housing. This page only names what you can see, and what a wattage or aim calculator cannot tell you.

Why fog appears

Many housings have vents, so pressure can change when the lamp heats and cools. Moist air that enters can condense on a cold lens. The film often fades after the lamp has been on. That pattern is not a current figure and not a beam-drop figure.

What is worth a closer look

Puddles, streaks of dirt inside the lens, a missing cap, or a cracked seam are not “normal fog.” Those signs need a visual check of seals and vents. A calculator on this site will not locate a leak. The current estimate only divides watts by volts. The aim estimate only uses height, distance, and drop.

Heat is not a fix from a webpage

LED packages often run cooler at the bulb than a halogen filament. That can change how fast a lens clears. It does not prove the housing is sealed. Do not treat a lower wattage as a moisture repair. The LED versus halogen guide stays with power and heat, not with a promise that fog will vanish.

What this site will not do

There is no VIN lookup for a “known condensation complaint.” There is no parts list and no shop address. If the lens stays wet, the vehicle manual and a person who can see the housing are the next step. A phone estimate of amperes will not dry the lamp.
